Gani is a Foreign Qualified lawyer and General Counsel at Eldwick Law. He has over 17 years of professional legal experience, having practised in corporate and commercial, energy and natural resources, compliance and private matters.

Before joining Eldwick Law in July 2019, Gani worked for a major international energy company (FTSE 100), a private equity firm, international law firms and international companies in Almaty, Moscow and London.

His experience in the energy and natural resources sector includes onshore and offshore, upstream, midstream and downstream projects, advising clients on exploration, development, production, processing and transportation as well as related mergers & acquisitions, financing, production sharing, tax and regulatory issues.

Some of his recent work includes:

  • Representation of a Kazakh private group in connection with $500 million sale of a medium size
  • Representation of an oil company to consortium of Asian investors
  • Representation of Kazakh Investment Company on largest privatisation completed on Kazakhstan
  • Stock Exchange (successful acquisition of ten percent of Kazakhmys JSC common shares)
  • Representation of Kazakh oil producer in project financing negotiations, syndicated loan from
  • EBRD, BNP Paribas and FMO to cover the construction cost of US$300 million
  • Advice to Kazakh oil & gas producer on IPO processes on London Stock Exchange, legal and organisational support
  • Advice to a consortium of oil & gas majors developing Kazakhstan’s largest oil & gas condensate
  • Involved in a series of high profile tax and other investment disputes (totaling more than $1.6 billion)
  • Representation of a large private equity fund in its acquisitions (including related financing and

  • Oil refinery in Louisiana, USA

  • Representation of a major integrated international oil & gas company in connection with debt
  • Financing of an expansion project for one of the major E&P joint ventures in Kazakhstan
  • Representation of a key shareholder in connection with a joint venture with Baring Vostok private

  • Representation of a consortium of oil & gas majors in a number of disputes with state authorities
  • (Tax and Customs Duties) in Russia and Kazakhstan related to Production Sharing Agreement
